Construction
Same laser-cut acrylic and same character shape as our 3mm range, cut from thicker sheet. Flat face, square sidewalls, 3M adhesive applied.
Who picks 5mm
Show and detailing work, and customers who want the plate noticed. It is heavier and less forgiving on the first placement, so it rewards careful fitting.
Ordering
A separate item from 3mm with its own code. Most workshops hold 3mm across the board and 5mm only in the characters they know sell.
Questions about 5mm acrylic
- How much bolder is 5mm than 3mm?
- The face is identical; the sidewall is two thirds deeper, which is what you see from any angle other than straight on.
- Is 5mm harder to fit?
- Slightly. It is heavier and rigid, so the blank needs to be flat and clean and the first placement needs to be right.
- Does 5mm need different fixings?
- No. Fixings attach the plate, not the characters — the thickness of the character makes no difference to how the plate mounts.
