Number plate supplies in Scotland
Almost every Scottish registration opens with S, which makes stock planning north of the border unusually lopsided compared with the rest of the UK.
S is the Scottish memory tag, issued through offices from Glasgow and Edinburgh to Inverness and Aberdeen. A Scottish workshop will use more S characters than any other letter by a wide margin.
The second letter of the area code narrows it further — Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness each have their own second-letter ranges.
Tracked 24 covers mainland Scotland normally; some Highland and island postcodes can take an extra day in Royal Mail's network, which is outside our control.
