Age identifiers from 2002 to 2009 — and never an O.

Zero leads the age identifiers issued between 2002 and 2009, and appears again in identifiers like 10, 20 and 30. It is the character most often confused with the letter O, so it is worth repeating: the age identifier is always two digits, so a rounded character in that position is a zero.

Where the 0 appears on UK plates

  • Age identifiers 02 to 09 cover registrations issued from March 2002 to August 2009.
  • Zero also sits in the second position of identifiers such as 10, 20, 30, 60 and 70.

Ordering and fitting the 0

  • Store apart from the letter O and scan the item code when picking.
  • Older vehicles on 0x identifiers are frequent replacement-plate work, so keep useful depth.

Questions about the 0

How do I know whether I need 0 or O?
Look at the position. The two characters after the area code are always digits, so that is a zero. A rounded character in the last three is the letter O.
Are they the same shape?
No. They are separate items with separate codes, and we do not substitute one for the other.
